This dress is a variation on Purl Bee’s lovely Embroidered Denim Jumper. I love the Purl Bee blog!  The Purl Soho store in Manhattan is an amazing place to visit- it looks like a bright candy store and is full of yarn and fabric and books and projects.  I used some vintage plaid to make this dress for Ada.  The jumper made up so quickly and easily I can’t wait to try the pattern out in other fabrics.  Etsy has some pretty plaid choices here.  The jumper requires very little machine sewing and it was fun to play around with new embroidery stitches.  This dress is the first of the sister dresses for this year.  (Here are last year’s).

Bloomers are one of my favorite baby wardrobe staples.  They are cute and comfortable and fit nicely over Josie’s big cloth diaper butt.  I modified a vintage Butterick pattern for this pair and they used less than half a yard of Liberty fabric.  I have plans to make some into longer pants, and a heavier corduroy would be perfect over tights for fall weather.  So many good options!  Here are some similar vintage patterns on Ebay.  Purl Soho is a great source for Liberty fabric, (and all around great inspiration).  Soor Ploom also has adorable bloomers if you would rather buy than DIY.

Chris and I are still pretending we can have nice furniture and children at the same time.  But it has been three years, and I haven’t yet refinished our dining room chairs.  I found the pattern for these beautiful knitted Spiral Seat Cushions in Joelle Hoverson’s More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts.  The book is amazing and full of easy knitting projects.  Joelle founded Purl Soho- one of the best knitting, sewing and crafting stores in Manhattan.

This project is great to do when you have kids around, as you can easily pick up where you left off. The cushions hide a multitude of sins on our chairs and they are easy to hand wash after Ada’s dinner in a big-girl chair.
