I was dreading this. Josie decided to take some steps in the park yesterday and suddenly she can climb the stairs. I guess it is time for some baby gates at our house.
Teach her how to go back down right away. You can get on the stairs with her and show her how to crawl down the same way she crawled up, feet below. If she learns how to go down the stairs feet first, she won’t be inclined to go down head first! I did this with my kids and it worked out well. Good luck.
I just read about your house the NY Times. Me and my five friends lived in that house for almost five years! It was so funny to come across it in the news. Everyone on that block is great – the block party is the best! If you meet Tony, tell him “hi from he Clifton girls!” Enjoy the new house!
Amazing! I love the block, and it is by far the friendliest place we’ve ever lived. We moved in the day before the block party and Ada (3) was in heaven. She assumed every day would be music-filled and car-free. I know Tony and will pass it along! Do you happen to know any of the history of the house? We are so curious. Thanks so much.
Such a lovely project you’ve set yourselves. But…have you checked for lead paint on the under-layers that are exposed? We too live in a very old home, and lead paint on stairs and windows is more common than not, and your little one is undoubtedly putting her hands in her mouth after all that climbing. Please check!
Yes! We have gotten a few comments concerning the paint. We are very careful about it and will continue to be as we renovate. Thank you for the concern. We also suggest having the water tested as many old pipes can contain lead. It is a free service in NYC.
