Book1

Our Photo Albums just arrived in the mail!  Every year we look through all the photos of the girls and have our favorites made into a book for the grandparents.  I love the process of editing and looking over the images from the past year.  Ada and Josie like to pull their chairs up to the computer and look through the pictures with me.  They grow and change so much in a year!  There are lots of online sites to create photo books, but we have always used IPhoto and Apple and love the results.  The editing and page options in Iphoto make it really easy to transfer photos into a book layout and the finished albums are beautiful.  The whole process of putting together a book feels very satisfying.  It makes us feel thankful for the past year and excited for the year ahead.  (And opening the books at Christmas time always seems make the grandparents smile).

*You still have time to make your own if you need a gift idea.  Our books always arrive in under two weeks.

Sketch Book

Ada’s sketchbook, age two.  She has a bunch of these and we have a stack of blank ones upstairs, waiting to be filled.  I love watching the progression of drawing and writing as she gets older.  One is filled with stickers and the beginnings of words and one is fat with glued-in papers.  I am excited for the days when she writes down her own stories and thoughts in the pages.  A blank book and some markers is my idea of the perfect birthday gift for a child.

Pinwheels made from vintage fabric for headband crowns.  I found a big box of cut circles at a flea market and the prints were perfectly bright and preserved.  I remember a quilt made from these at my Gram’s house when I was little.  Yesterday Chris took the kids for the day and left me to a quiet house and NPR Podcasts and production.  So lovely!  I am working during the kids’ naps and between art projects to get lots of crowns done before Renegade in June.  I love a project!

Organizing Art Work

Alex Toys, art portfolio, arts, clothespins, collage pieces, diy, editing art work, eye hooks, hardware store, metro shelves, Metro Shelving, organizing kids' art work, painter's tape, saving kids' art work, twine

Two of my favorite ways to organize kids’ artwork come from the hardware store.  Clothespins are perfect for hanging things from Metro Shelves.  If you don’t have shelves you can stretch heavy twine between eye hooks and hang from there.  Painter’s tape makes easily removable frames for rotating pictures.  Both of these methods work well with bulky collage pieces.  If you still love a piece after it has spent time on the walls it can be moved to a large folder such as this by Alex Toys.  There is nothing like time staring at a piece on the wall to help with the editing!
