Hello and happy First Week of the Year!  I hope you are all weathering the crazy cold in a cozy spot.  We have been staying warm inside, and staying busy posting new vintage finds in our Etsy shop.  (I am having a really hard time not sneaking the two sets of juice glasses into our own cabinets).  I will be putting up new listings this week, so stay indoors and keep checking back for fresh treasures!

We started fall off with apple picking and antique shops this weekend.  Chris found this giant pumpkin at Sun High Orchards after we picked 20 pounds (!) of apples.  I am excited to perfect a maple apple jam recipe with them this week.  The girls went on their first pony rides at the farm and Josie did not want to share her pony with any of the other kids waiting in line.  I scored a pair of vintage juice glasses decorated with fall leaves (for $.99 each !).  Ada found this crown at the last antique shop and decided it could live on the pumpkin when not on her own head.  There is officially a chill in the air today.  Welcome Autumn!

I love vintage glasses.  We have a large collection in daily rotation, and they brighten up even the most boring beverage.  I especially love these tiny juice glasses (the stars, tulips and gingham in the photo), called Swanky Swigs.  The small Swigs from the 1930s and 40s make cheery little wine glasses.  I had a collection of them long before the kids, but they turned out to be the perfect size for little hands.  We have dropped our fair share, and it always brings a little pang when a favorite hits the tile floor…but I generally won’t pay more than $4 per glass, and a space on the shelf is a reason to go explore an antique shop.  We are planning the future kitchen shelves around the collection.  Etsy has a sweet collection of vintage glasses here.  Cheers!

Lilac

Our neighbors gave us a little lilac bush last fall and we planted it in the back and weren’t sure if it would make it through the winter.  It is happily in bloom now and reminding me of growing up in New Hampshire.  When we were kids we had amazingly fragrant lilacs planted in front of the house and the smell of them always takes me back to early summer there.  Vintage juice glasses are some of my favorite vases and have a bit of a glass collecting obsession.  I usually refuse to pay more than $3 per glass.  This lily-of-the-valley etched version came in a set of 12 for $15 from an Upstate New York antique shop.  Bargain!
